Classic Rock Tours organises a number of regular events.  The first one that I came across was Rhodes Rock.  It used to be held in Lindos, Rhodes, but by the time I first caught up with it in June 2014, whilst retaining the title Rhodes Rock, the event had moved to Benalmaneda on The Costa Del Sol in the South of Spain.  Then, in October 2015 and closer to home, I had the enormous pleasure of a weekend in Great Yarmouth for Legends Of Rock - The Originals.  The saga continues ...

Rhodes Rock Espana 2014: Getting there and back.  A small album covering a stop-over at Gatwick, a few in-flight pictures through the window, and some first glimpses of Spain and Benalmadena.  There are also a couple of shots of the train journey back to Malaga Airport.

To And From

The first full day, and first official visit to the Rhodes Rock venue for the week, The Elefante, saw performances from Stone Free and Who’s Next.  There are also some touristy pictures from earlier in the day.  (14/060, Thursday 5th June 2014)

Thursday

Friday night was the ‘Anything Goes’ Fancy Dress Night, with music provided by Stargazer and Four Wheel Drive.  (14/061, Friday 6th June 2014)

Friday

Saturday’s frivolities started in the afternoon with a Rock Quiz on the terrace outside The Elefante, followed by a set inside from Prezence. The evening’s sets came from Towers Of Stone, followed by Rammlied.  (14/062, Saturday 7th June 2014)

Saturday

Sunday: A relatively quiet day, but soundly rounded off by Sack Sabbath, and then The Pat McManus Band - one of my personal highlights of the week. (14/063, Sunday 8th June 2014)

Sunday

Not unexpectedly, the largest of these albums is for the Tutu Beach Party (even Desmond was there) at the Malapesquera Beach Club, with music from Jimi Anderson & The Core.  In the evening, we returned to the Elefante for The ZZ Tops and Live Wire, although I never got to see the latter.  (14/064 and 14/065, Monday 9th June.)

Monday

The last full day started off with a last look at the marina, beach, and promenade.  Back at The Elefante, it was Shite Shirts night, with music from The Doors Alive.  The evening was rounded off with music and mayhem from The Classic Rock Tours Megajam, fuelled by copious amounts of Jack Daniels.  Thanks, Jamie!  (14/066, Tuesday 10th June)

Tuesday

Rhodes Rock Espana 2015: A quietish night, as some people were still arriving or still on their way.  The evening started off in the basement of the Alay Hotel, our principal venue for the week,  with White Coast Rebels, and then StOp sToP.  Viva Santana rounded the night off.  (15/062, Wednesday 10th June)

Wednesday

A fun day, with members of Stray and Pearl Handled Revolver joining in the aquarobics in the pool just after breakfast.  The evening was the ‘anything goes’ fancy dress night, with music  from the afore-mentioned Stray and Pearl Handled Revolver.  The evening was rounded off by Oliver/Dawson Saxon.  Look out for the flying shark.  (15/063, Thursday 11th June 2015).

Thursday

The afternoon’s entertainment was Gavin’s Rock Quiz, aided and abetted by Stone Free on stage.  The evening’s session comprised Dio Rising, and then Legends of AOR.  By this time I was exhausted, so I turned in, and in doing so, I missed out on Live Wire’s AC/DC Show. (15/064, Friday 12th June 2015)

Friday

Day 4.  Three coachloads of us became tourists for the day and took a trip to the picturesque town of Ronda.  It was way up in the mountains, and the altitude made it fairly cold.  It was still a pleasant day out.

Saturday

The fourth day continued in the evening with Fleetwood Bac, the excellent Skinny Molly, and Buster James.  Most of us were well into the party mood. (15/065, Saturday 13th June 2015)

Saturday

Another highlight of the week was Sunday afternoon’s Beach Tutu Party held, as lst year,  at the Malapesquera Beach Bar.  Live music was provided by The Core, with Jimi Anderson.  (15/066, Sunday 14t June 2015)

Sunday

Back to the Alay for the evening session, which, for me, was the strongest overall line-up of the week.  Virgil & The Accelerators kicked off, and were later augmented by Ben Poole.  Then we had Larry Miller, followed by the Pat McManus Band, altogether making it a cracking day. (15/067, Sunday 14th June 2015)

Sunday

A quiet day, with a rainstorm in the middle of it, while I was safely under cover having lunch.  Later in the afternoon I resolved that I really didn’t want to go home - it had, so far, been so good here.
Anyway, the evening session in the Alay comprised Metalingus, The Scopyons, Splintered Soul, and Raw Glory.  (15/068, Monday 15th June 2015)

Monday

My last day.  A few coachloads of us headed along the coast to Mijas for an ‘Exotic Swimwear Party’ on a ‘Secret Beach’.  Music was provide by Howie G & Friends.  (15/069, Tuesday 16th June 2015)

Tuesday

The final session, back at the Alay, featured Soulweaver followed by Think Floyd.  (15/070, Tuesday 16th June 2015)

Tuesday

Legends Of Rock - The Originals 2015.  Of a total of 38 bands over the whole weekend, I only managed to see 22, starting with Raw Glory who were on when I arrived on the Friday.  In the rest of the first day, I saw the Peckham Cowboys, The Amorettes, Wolfsbane, Darke Horse, Nazareth, and finally Ali Clinton and a brilliant jam session.  (15/103, Friday 16th October 2015)

Friday

Day 2: Spiral Drive, Peckham Cowboys (again), Black Whiskey, Pearl Handled Revolver, Evil Scarecrow, Walkway, Stray, StOp sToP.  It was also fancy dress night.  (15/104 Saturday 17th October 2015)

Saturday

Day 3: The last day got off to a cracking start with Soulweaver.  Next we had Ali Clinton (again - as a late stand-in for Serpentine), Western Sand, City Of Thieves (arisen from the ashes of Four Wheel Drive), Voodoo Six, Electric Boys, Uli Jon Roth.  The weekend wasrounded off by Metal Fatigue, followed by a jam with some familiar friends.  (15/105, Sunday 18th October 2015)

Sunday

Tribute To Legends Of Rock - 2016.  This time, there were about 50 bands over four days.  On the first night, Thursday, I saw The Supersonic 70s Show, The Hair Rock Experience, and Dr. & The Medics.  A good warm-up for what was to follow.  (16/014, Thursday 10th March 2016)

Thursday

Day 2, Friday:  The so-called ‘normal’ night started just after midday, and went on until the early hours.  Of the 17 bands available I got to see City Of Thieves, State Of Quo, Nirvana UK, The Scopyons, Sack Sabbath, Jef Leppard, Legends of AOR, The Pat McManus Band, and The Ali Clinton Band.  (16/015, Friday 11th March 2016)

Friday

Day 3:  Fancy Dress Night, with an amazing array of costumes.  Another 17 bands on offer today, of which I saw Cairo Son, Cats In Space, Rammlied, Rainbow In Rock, Letz Zep, The Doors Alive, Live Wire, The Peckham Cowboys, Matt Pearce & Friends.  It was a long night.  (16/016, Saturday 12th March 2016)

Saturday

Day 4:  The day of the tutu.  A smaller than usual album, as I was trying to conserve battery power.  Aniother 17 acts on offer, from which I saw Guns V Roses, Hi-On Maiden, Not The Rolling Stones, Bon Giovi, Memento, Ben Poole, Buster James.  (16/017, Sunday 13th March 2016)

Sunday

Rhodes Rock Espana 2016: This year, the event was based in the Holiday & Camping Park on the outskirts of Vilanova i la Geltrὺ, a town about an hour from Barcelona.  As someone who is keen on travel, this first album is a small collection about my journey there and back.

Travel

The RRE events started on site on the Thursday afternoon with the Welcome Hawaiian Pool Party, with music from The Goodges.  Also on site on Saturday was an evening off to watch the England match onTV. Then, on the following Tuesday we had the traditional Rock Quiz from Gavin.  I was in the team that came last.  We were nearly subjected to a tie-break, but a re-count sealed our fate.

Site

On the Thursday evening, our busses took us in to the heart of Barcelona to Razzmatazz to see Sack Sabbath followed by Livewire.  We returned there on the Friday for the Golden Grahams, Rock Goddess, and The Quireboys.

Razzmatazz

Back on the busses on Saturday, when we took a short trip to Vilanova’s Ribes Roges Beach for the Tutu & Silly Hat Beach Party, with more music from the Golden Grahams, followed by Jimi Anders & The Core.  You don’t get this at Butlins in January.  Later, we had ‘the night off’ to watch the footy.

Saturday

On Sunday,  the busses took us to the La Daurada Beach Club on the Vilanova sea front.  La Daurada is a superb venue that also had the benefit of an outdoor terrace overlooking the sea and beach.  Inside, music was provided by Rockworkz, King King, Praying Mantis, and Uli Jon Roth.  Afterwards, Danny Vaughn took the midnight session outside on the terrace.

Sunday

After a ‘day off’ on Monday, we returned to La Daurada on Tuesday where we were splendidly entertained by Massive Wagons, Ali Clinton, and City Of Thieves.  The midnight session on the terrace was in the capable hands of Ben Poole and  Friends.

Tuesday

Wednesday’s mainstage show was again at La Daurada, and featured the Golden Grahams, Band Of Friends, and Legends of AOR.  There were several versions of what AOR stood for, so I gave up asking.  The Goodges started the midnight session on the terrace before the heavens opened, making some of us make a run for the bus, while others carried on back inside.

Wednesday

Our Final night at La Daurada featured two excellent bands - The Bohemians, and Think Floyd.  The night closed with the Goodges providing the midnight session inside the main auditorium.

Thursday

Yarmageddon 6, Legends Of Rock - 2017.  This year’s ‘Legends’ started with a Glam/Hair Metal Welcome Party Hosted By The Doctor (of Doctor And The Medics).  The show opened with The Hair Rock Experience, followed by Tragedy.  The evening was rounded off by Doctor And The Medics.  Altogether, a rousing start to the weekend.

Thursday

Day 2, Friday, was designated as a ‘Normal’ night.  Amongst the many other bands on offer, I got to see Sack, Sabbath,  Who’s Next, Mentallica, and The Goodges.

Friday

Saturday:  An ‘anything goes’ Fancy Dress Night.  Some great costumes on show.  I got to see lots of bands tonight:  The Buster James Band, Rainbow In Rock, Thin Lizzy Experience, Rammlied, Viva Santana, Motorkill, Metal Fatigue, StoneWire, and, lastly, City Of Thieves.  A fantastic night.

Saturday

Often, when I’m away for events like this, I like to take a quick look at the surrounding area.  This time I found an old chain ferry inland, and a very brief look at the sea front reminded me that there’s not much that is more miserable than a British seaside town in Winter.

Around

Day 4:  Designated as the Shite Shirt & Tutu night, although the Tutus were not as much in evidence as usual, i.e. as on the beaches in Spain.  Acts I saw were Four Fighters, Pearl Handled Revolver, Stray, Bon Giovi, Sacrilege (New to me.  I  liked them a lot.), Hell Bent For Priest, Ben Poole, Jimi Anderson & Friends.

There were lots of farewells.
