The venues I used to go to most often were the Riga Music Bar in Southend, The Half Moon In Putney, The Square in Harlow, and Esquires/Danny’s Bar in Bedford. Less frequently visited favourites are Cox’s Yard in Stratford-upon-Avon, Sawyers in Kettering, and The Boom Boom Club in Sutton.
Other occasional visits are made to the other venues listed on the left: The well-known 100 Club in London’s Oxford Street, The Papillon in Southend, and The Standard in Walthamstow.
Closer to home are The Horn in St. Albans, The Horns in Watford, The Goat in Berkhamsted, Greenacres in Hemel Hempstead, Blackwells in Chipperfield, The Blacksmiths Arms in St. Albans, The Plough & Harrow in Harpenden, and, closest of all, The Oddfellows Arms in Apsley. The latter being only about five minutes walk away from my home.
More recently, I have also been venturing into London - to The Boogaloo in Archway, The Gaff in Holloway Road (since closed), The Scala Theatre near Kings Cross, and The Monarch in Camden.
A few years back, I was losing track of who I'd seen and where I'd been, so I began to keep a note of all the gigs I attended (perhaps I should get out more). Here are the years' top ten venues by number of viewings:
